As a fifth grader, Immanuel Quickley ’18 would say that when he grew up, he wanted to play in the NBA or be an eye doctor. A decade of hard work and dedication later, Immanuel’s picture was displayed on billboards outside of Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden after being selected 25th overall in this year’s NBA Draft by the New York Knicks. The former Patriot and University of Kentucky point guard will soon take the court in one of the notable arenas in the country, an achievement that his mother credits to his unwavering commitment to his dreams. Mrs. Quickley, an assistant principal at nearby Bel Air High School, says that Immanuel “ is living proof that if you continue to work extra hard and never give up, all things are possible if you believe.” 

In addition to his early selection in the draft and position as one of the nation’s top point guards, he completed his career with John Calipari’s Wildcats as the SEC Player of the Year following a strong sophomore campaign. Despite his recent successes, Mrs. Quickley notes that her son has maintained the humble, kind demeanor that he has become known for – prior to the draft, he traveled to and from the gym in the family’s spare mini-van – and that he realizes his hard work has just begun.
